George William Gordon (1801-1877) served as United States Consul in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Topics of correspondence include political matters, postal service in Boston, Daniel Webster, and the slave trade. Also, correspondence, 1844-1845, with U.S. Dept. of State concerning Gordon's controversy with Henry A. Wise, U.S. Minister to Brazil.
